DEATH OF JOHN W. STALEY

PASSED AWAY AT HIS HOME IN THIS CITY TUESDAY AFTERNOON

Had Been in Poor Health Past Year and Half – Funeral Services Conducted at Residence Yesterday.

John William Staley was born February 11, 1854 in Nicholas County, Ky., near Carlisle and died at his home in this city Tuesday afternoon at the age of 58 years, 9 months and 1 day.

Mr. Staley with his parents moved to Illinois, first going to Menard county and later moving to this county where he has since resided. On February 12, 1879 he was united in marriage to Emma Paris. After three years on the farm Mr. Staley and his wife moved to this city to live.

Mr. Staley became a member of the Christian Church in Tallula and lived a practical christian life the remainder of his years. For many years he was engaged in the nursery business in and around Chandlerville, and he possessed unusual ability as a careful and successful business man. For the past year and a half his health gradually failed until the end came peacefully Tuesday afternoon.

Those left to mourn his departure are his wife, two sons, Edward of St. Louis and Russell at home, an aged mother of Tallula, three brothers, T.F. and A.L. of Tallula, S.B. of Pearl, Ill., a half brother, Seth Puckett, of Dallas City, Ill.

The funeral services were held at the family residence yesterday afternoon at 1:30, conducted by Dr. B.O.Aylesworth, pastor of the Christian church of this city, assited by Rev.O.H.Myers, pastor of the M.E. church, after which the remains were entered in the village cemetery.

The funeral services were held under the auspices of the M.W. of A. lodge of which he was a member.
