1939
And Beyond
(The Year in Photographs)

Edward R. Staley and Jeane Barthell marry in November 1939, capping a year well documented in photographs and beginning a run of photography that that lasts for about five years (based on available photo albums that remain in the family).

It appears that several months prior to the wedding Edward purchased a camera and began documenting his travels. After marriage photography continued to be a passion through the births of Edward and Jeane's first two children, Joan and Ted. There are fewer photos of their third child, Babs.

Many of the photographs linked from this page are contained in a single photograph album with the following dedication: "'Dedicated to the days when the following scenes are but memories'--- December 1939".

Unfortunately, many of the photos in this album are missing and of those that remain, few are still affixed to the original pages with accompanying labels. Hours of searching and sorting resulted in this collection and estimated chronology for the photos in the album.

It's a given that personal recollection of my grandparents drives this area of the the family geneology website. The special intrigue of this area is seeing two young people set out together with full health and great expectations. It's fun to imagine all the memories and golden recollections as the unknown future waiting ahead.
