Eble Granger

I visited Horton Cemetery in July of 2006 looking for Granger and Nafus headstones. I was especially interested in seeing Abial Granger's headstone as Leonard (Len) Granger had told me some of his colorful history. Abial's headstone is on the left of the group of three below. Len also tipped me off that the Granger plot in Horton Cemetery has Abial Granger, Orwill Granger, two children of Ebenezer Granger who died young, and possibly an additional Granger.

Of the two headstones on the right the middle one is much more legible. (I could not make out any of the writing on the third.) I brushed grass clippings off the headstone and then spread dirt from a nearby vole hole to get a clearer image of the headstone. (See the two photos below.) The information I can read is as follows:

EBLE

Son of

A.E. & O. Granger

DIED

Nov. 13, 1861

Aged 3 years

I assume A.E. is Ebenezer A. Granger although I'm not sure why the "A." comes first on the headstone. The "O." is for Olive Marsh Granger.

I recently found an obituary for Olive Marsh Granger which mentions that two of her children died before she did, a son and a daughter. This headstone would be for the son she lost.

Also, I have a family photo of my great-great-grandfather, W. A. Granger with the the handwritten identification "on right, with little brother who died".

W.A. Granger was born Sept. 12, 1857. He appears no more than four years old in this photo, and his sibling is certainly no more than three and possibly still two in this photo. This time frame matches with Eble being three in November of 1861.
Len Granger's posting on Rootsweb further confirms Eble's short timeline and it may add some additional information about Eble's full name.
